Kizugawa City is located in the southern tip of Kyoto prefecture, just north of Nara City, The City is located in a wide valley dotted with rice fields, bamboo forests and various orchards. It's a nice quiet area of Kyoto prefecture with a substantial amount of historic treasures, shrines and temples. Kizugawa City also has a rich history dating back thousands of years. From AD740 to AD745 Kizugawa was the site of the capitol of Japan, before it returned to Nara. Kizugawa City was formed in 2007 after the municipal merger of Yamashiro, Kamo and Kizu towns.
