Today, December 17, the annual On-Matsuri (おん祭) was held in the city of Nara. This matsuri dates back to the 12th Century when an epidemic prevailed, and prayers were offered at this festival for the eradication of the plague and also for the blessing of a rich harvest. It was an unusual cold wintry day and you could clearly see that the participants were suffering from the icy winds. The On-Matsuri (おん祭) is held at the Wakamiya Shrine (若宮神社) in the precincts of Kasuga Taisha (春日大社) in Nara.
