A few days ago, I attended a tea ceremony with some friends, in the old Higashiyama district of Kyoto. Situated on the walkway that connects Maruyama park and the Kiyomizu Temple in the heart of Kyoto. Miss Atsuko Mori is a certified tea ceremony master and a sweet host who speaks fluent English. Her tea room is in a authentic, beautiful 100-year-old traditional Geisha ryokan near Kiyomizu Temple. In a 45 minute ceremony she explains the history of the tea ceremony and performs “the way of tea” in a serene setting. At the end you have the opportunity to make your own “matcha” that you can enjoy with a typical Kyoto sweet. I can heartily recommend the Camellia tea ceremony of Miss Atsuko Mori.
